Bridesmaids
Bridesmaids stars Kristen Wiig and various others in a film by Judd Apatow about a group of, you've guessed it; Bridesmaids! Wiig is the maid of honour in this hilariously funny look at what is involved in the run up to a wedding, all the stress, the hen do (bachelorette party for those in the USA), the shower (eh! for those in the UK). It's got a bit of boy meets girl, a douche bag 'fuck buddy' in the form of the lovely Jon Hamm, a few 'ahhhhh' moments and lots of laughs. I wasn't sure I was going to love it in the first 15 minutes as had heard it was great but it was really laugh out loud funny. Might see it again!

The Green Lantern
Ryan Reynolds stars as the Green Lantern, a superhero of sorts in this, another comic book adaptation. It also stars Blake Lively as the love interest although the isn't a huge amount of mushy love stuff in it! There were moments of cartoonishness (is that a word?) but was quite enjoyable. The plot is that something or someone is destroying civilisations and it kills the alien wearing the all powerful ring that then finds Ryan Reynolds and makes him the Green Lantern. He then has to fight to save the earth as well as the rest of the universe. There was a little bit after the main credits too which sets us up for Lantern 2 predictably!!

Bad Teacher
Bad Teacher stars Cameron Diaz as the teacher in question and also co-stars Lucy Punch, Jason Segel and Justin Timberlake. Diaz is a lazy teacher whose mission in life is to find a rich man to take care of her so just shows her class films until she finds out that there is a prize for the teacher with the best results in a test the kids take. She also pursues JT when she realises he comes from money (he's another teacher) and is pursued by Jason Segel who is a PE teacher. It's quite naughty but very funny pretty much the whole way through. It's had mainly 3 star reviews but I'd give it 4.

The Beaver
The Beaver stars Mel Gibson, Jodie Foster and Anton Yelchin as a family struggling with the effects of mental illness. Gibson plays Walter, a man who is so depressed he is just a shell of a man who spends much of his time sleeping. After a failed suicide attempt he starts to communicate using a glove puppet, The Beaver. This has mixed results in that he turns things around at work and his home life improves but inevitably this can't last forever. Excellent performances by all involved and it's actually a very good film despite the odd premise. I really think Anton Yelchin is a great young actor and one to watch.

X-Men: First Class
X-Men: First Class is a prequel to all the other X-Men films with a cast including the always fabulous James McAvoy as Professor X, Michael Fassbender as Magneto and Kevin Bacon as Sebastian Shaw (the baddie). It has a host of other well known faces in it including brief appearances by Rebecca Romijn and Hugh Jackman. The film is about how these characters came to be the people we know from the other films including X and Magneto's shared past and how X came to be in a wheelchair. There was lots of action and the film was enjoyable but it felt a tad long at over 2 hours. Also, Fassbender's accent which was neither here nor there for most of the film suddenly turned proper Irish in the latter part of the film and it was quite distracting! Well worth a watch though!

Last Night
Last Night has had almost no advertising here (that I've seen) and I hadn't heard of it til I saw it was on at my local Cineworld. It stars Keira Knightley, Sam Worthington, Eva Mendes and Guillaume Canet (sp?) as a married couple (Keira and Sam) and two people who tempt them on a night they spend apart. It's very well done and quite sad ultimately but very enjoyable. Watching the beautiful people for a couple of hours doesn't hurt either - Guillaume is beautiful when he smiles!!! It's really a film about temptation and how you deal with it; whether that's in the form of a past love that never faded or a beautiful co-worker. Very good!!
