The King's Speech
I've just come back from seeing The King's Speech which was the best film I've seen for ages! It stars Colin Firth as Bertie (aka King George VI), Geoffrey Rush as his speech therapist and Helena Bonham-Carter as Elizabeth (as we knew her, The Queen Mother). Bertie stammers and has sought help from many doctors when he meets Lionel (Rush) whose methods are unconventional to say the least. What follows is a touching and often funny account of the life of Bertie during the time before his father, the king, passed away up until he makes his first wartime speech as king after his brother, Edward, abdicated to marry Wallis Simpson. A wonderful film which thoroughly deserves the good reviews it's getting!
