Whip it!

I just saw Whip it! which is directed by Drew Barrymore and stars Ellen Page. It's about a 17 year-old girl, called Bliss, who takes part in beauty pageants to please her mum but then discovers Roller Derby. Roller Derby involves skating as fast as you can round a track with a team of other women and beating the other team - sometimes quite literally! Bliss can't tell her parents about her new hobby - as Babe Ruthless of the Hurl Scouts - and has to pretend to be over 21 to be on the team so we get to follow her journey from learning to skate to the inevitable trials and tribulations she must go through in order to learn valuable life lessons.
The film was generally pretty fast paced and had me grinning most of the way through. A good fun film, perfect for a girls night out!
