Fair Game and You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger

Fair Game stars Naomi Watts as Valerie Plame, a CIA agent whose identity is revealed in a newspaper after her husband writes an article contradicting the Bush administration on the reasons for the Iraq war. It's based on a true story and stars Sean Penn as her husband. It was fairly pacy and I really enjoyed it although my friend wasn't so keen; not her sort of film apparently. The actors were excellent and it kept my attention so no complaints from me..
You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger is about a pair of married couples, Alfie (Anthony Hopkins) and Helena, and their daughter Sally (Naomi Watts) and her husband Roy (Josh Brolin). Alfie leaves Helena for a much younger woman and Helena starts taking advice from a bogus psychic after trying to kill herself while Sally develops a crush on her boss (Antonio Banderas). Roy meanwhile is becoming obsessed but the woman who lives opposite while he waits to hear what his publisher thinks of his book. It's classic Woody Allen and has the usual voice over narration a lot of his films have. I liked it a lot!

The Company Men and The Adjustment Bureau

I saw The Company Men on Sunday. It stars Ben Affleck, Chris Cooper and Tommy-Lee Jones as the titular "Company Men" who lose their jobs working for a large company. It follows their lives and shows the effect that losing their jobs has on them. Not too much to say about this although it was a good film it wasn't very cheery as you might expect.
The Adjustment Bureau stars Matt Damon and Emily Blunt in what has been described as "Inception Lite". Not something that would sell it to me as I thought Inception was overrated but this is fab. It's about a politician (Damon) who meets and falls in love with a woman (Blunt) and discovered he's not supposed to see her again. The Adjustment Bureau men make themselves known and try to adjust his path in life but he's having none of it. I didn't love the trailer although after seeing it 6 or 7 times I fancied seeing it more than I did initially and I'm glad I did. Even my husband enjoyed it and he rarely likes anything we see at the cinema!

Just Go With It

Just Go With It is a silly comedy starring Adam Sandler as Danny, a plastic surgeon who has his heart broken as a young man and becomes a serial shagger by pretending his wife is a druggie/drunk/husband beater. Jennifer Aniston plays his assistant who gets dragged into his lying by agreeing to pretend to be his soon-to-be-ex-wife in order for him to keep seeing his latest conquest. The plot involves them going to Hawaii with her (now 'their') children, the girlfriend and Aniston's fake boyfriend. They also meet her old college roommate played by an over-the-top Nicole Kidman. It was very silly in places but was funny enough to keep me watching. Probably 3 stars I guess.

Never Let Me Go

I don't wish to spoil this film (for myself as I'm the only person to read this???!) so won't say too much but Never Let Me Go is a heartbreaking sci-fi love story; sounds odd I know! It stars Carey Mulligan, Keira Knightley and Andrew Garfield as three friends who grow up together at a boarding school and two become a couple. I'm not going into more detail than that but it made me cry a lot and I still loved it!
